These instructions will help you to correctly match the correct file type to download (i.e. .xmp vs. .lrt) from your download link and correct installation location for placing your Lightroom presets (i.e. Lightroom>Develop Presets folder vs. Camera Raw > Settings folder).
Find your version of compatible software by opening your software program and going to Help > System Info.
Lightroom Classic CC versions 7.0 or later (subscription-based software):
First, update your Lightroom software to the latest release. Then, follow these directions for installation of your Lightroom presets in Lightroom Classic CC. You'll need your version to update to 7.3 or greater in order to successfully install with these instructions. You will install the .xmp files (not .lrt files) into the Camera Raw>Settings folder (not the Lightroom>Develop Presets folder). Both file versions are available via your download link. Once installed, open and close Lightroom Classic CC and your presets will be functional. Brushes get installed differently than presets. Brushes are installed in the Lightroom>Local Adjustment Presets folder and accessed via the brush menu.
Lightroom CC versions 1.0 or later (subscription-based software):
First, update your Lightroom software to the latest release. Then, follow these directions for installation of your Lightroom presets in Lightroom CC. You will install the .xmp files (not .lrt files) into the Camera Raw>Settings folder (not the Lightroom>Develop Presets folder). Both file versions are available via your download link. Once installed, open and close Lightroom Classic CC and your presets will be functional. Currently, local adjustment brushes are only compatible with the more powerful Lightroom Classic CC and not the more compact and mobile-friendly Lightroom CC.
Lightroom Classic versions 5 or 6 or LR CC version 2015 (software was purchased outright):
Follow these directions for installation of your Lightroom presets in older versions of Lightroom Classic and CC. You'll be installing the .lrt files (not .xmp files) in the Lightroom>Develop Presets folder (not the Camera Raw>Setting folder). Both file versions are available via your download link. Once installed, open and close Lightroom and your presets will be functional. Brushes are installed in the Lightroom>Local Adjustment Presets folder and accessed via the brush menu.
Lightroom Mobile (free app)
It is possible to use Lightroom presets on mobile devices. However, please note that you can only sync your presets with your mobile devices if you have an active subscription to Lightroom CC desktop through Adobe. Need to update your Lightroom or Photoshop subscription? We recommend the Adobe Photography Plan.
